Wellbeing Lead (Head of Year) and Secondary PE Teacher
2023 - present
As Head of Year for Years 10 and 11 at British School Jakarta, one of Asia's most esteemed not-for-profit schools, I have the privilege of supporting over 250 students through a pivotal stage in their educational journey. This middle leadership role allows me to work closely with a team of 12 tutors, whom I guide in the effective delivery of the Wellbeing and PSHE curriculum. Additionally, I maintain direct and meaningful interactions with all students, celebrating their successes and providing guidance throughout their academic and socio-emotional development.
For many students, the GCSE years are their first encounter with the pressures of public examinations. Alongside my team of tutors, we ensure that students are supported within a framework that promotes their safety and well-being during this critical time.
As a secondary PE teacher, I facilitate the MYP PHE curriculum and teach IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science (SEHS) at both Standard and Higher Levels. I am fortunate to collaborate with, and continuously learn from, specialist coaches from renowned organizations such as the Manchester City Football Academy, Elevate Basketball, and the Jakarta Gymnastics Club.
FOBISIA PE & Sport Executive Committee
2022 - present
My role as the FOBISIA Games Representative in the FOBISIA PE & Sport Executive Committee gives me specific oversight of the world renowned FOBISIA Friendly Games, which are performed annually throughout the entire academic year at U11, U13 and U15 levels. I work closely with member schools and the contracted facilitators of the event to ensure that the Games are delivered to the highest standard. I pride myself on ensuring that the FOBISIA brand continues to flourish through headline events such as the Games.
Head of Whole School Physical Education Faculty
2020 - 2023
In my first international teaching role at Bromsgrove International School, Thailand, I successfully revitalized a department with significant potential. Leading a team of eight, we systematically enhanced the profile of PE and sport across the school, fostering a positive ethos and instilling a passion for sport among students. This has led to a marked improvement in academic outcomes in PE and a significantly increased uptake at both GCSE and BTEC levels.
I gained valuable experience managing staff resistant to change, mentoring young teachers and GAP students at the start of their careers, and conducting interviews for new department roles.
Much of this transformation was achieved despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, including repeated and extended restrictions on face-to-face teaching.
Head of Wellbeing, PSHE & Teacher of PE
2007 - 2020
During my 13 years at Elizabeth College, Guernsey, I gained extensive experience in student Wellbeing, PSHE and PE. As a young Head of Department, I successfully led a team of seven staff members to deliver a comprehensive PSHE program across the school. I established a thriving department that introduced Citizenship at GCSE level and ensured a well-rounded, balanced PSHE curriculum for all students.
In response to emerging research and developments in the field, I enhanced the PSHE curriculum by integrating soft skills such as growth mindset, resilience, and wellbeing. Throughout this time, I had the privilege of engaging with inspirational figures, including Olympians, adventurers, and successful business leaders, who shared their remarkable stories with our students, staff, and parents.
As a PE teacher, I honed my expertise in delivering exam-focused content at both GCSE and A Level. Additionally, as Master in Charge of Athletics, I took great pride in supporting athletes, some of whom have since gone on to represent Team GB at the Olympic Games in Tokyo and Paris.
Flight Lieutenant, RAF Reserves (CCF)
2007 - 2020
As a commissioned officer in the Royal Air Force, my experience in the armed forces has profoundly shaped both my teaching and leadership approaches. The continuous training I have received through the RAF has instilled in me a strong sense of pride in professionalism and appearance, alongside a clear understanding of leadership expectations.
I have had numerous opportunities to apply leadership theory in practical settings, overseeing both staff and students in a variety of adventurous challenges. Additionally, I have led and supervised live full-bore rifle shooting exercises under controlled conditions, ensuring safety and precision. This experience has further developed my ability to lead with confidence and discipline.
